November 6th USDA Illinois Crop Progress and Condition Report

Illinois experienced cooler and dryer temperatures last week. There were 4.3 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending November 5. Statewide, the average temperature was 46.0 degrees, 3.0 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 0.51 inches, 0.41 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 2 percent very short, 14 percent short, 75 percent adequate, and 9 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 8 percent very short, 21 percent short, 69 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Corn harvested for grain was 83 percent complete, compared to 91 for the 5-year average. Soybean harvest was 92 percent complete, compared to 94 percent last year. Winter wheat planted was at 90 percent, compared to 92 percent last year. Winter wheat emerged was at 73 percent, compared to 70 percent for the 5-year average. Winter wheat condition was rated 7 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 28 percent fair, 46 percent good, and 14 percent excellent. Pasture and range condition was rated 8 percent very poor, 17 percent poor, 45 percent fair, 28 percent good, and 2 percent excellent.
