October 2nd USDA Illinois Crop Progress and Condition Report

Dry conditions were prevalent across the state last week. There were 7.0 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending October 1. Statewide, the average temperature was 66.4 degrees, 4.3 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.02 inches, 0.68 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 36 percent very short, 48 percent short, and 16 percent adequate. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 32 percent very short, 46 percent short, and 22 percent adequate. Corn dented was at 97 percent, compared to 100 percent for the 5-year average. Corn mature was at 73 percent, compared to 96 percent last year. Corn harvest was 21 percent complete, compared to 38 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition was rated 4 percent very poor, 10 percent poor, 28 percent fair, 43 percent good, and 15 percent excellent. Soybeans coloring was at 92 percent, compared to 93 percent for the 5-year average. Soybeans dropping leaves was at 80 percent, compared to 77 percent last year. Soybean harvest was 30 percent complete, compared to 15 percent last year. Soybean condition was rated 5 percent very poor, 9 percent poor, 27 percent fair, 47 percent good, and 12 percent excellent. Pasture and range condition was rated 24 percent very poor, 28 percent poor, 35 percent fair, 12 percent good, and 1 percent excellent.
