October 23rd USDA Illinois Crop Progress and Condition Report

Harvest continued with scattered showers across the state last week. There were 5.3 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending October 22. Statewide, the average temperature was 59.0 degrees, 6.0 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.19 inches, 0.55 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 8 percent very short, 18 percent short, 68 percent adequate, and 6 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 13 percent very short, 26 percent short, 59 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Corn harvested for grain was 62 percent complete compared to 74 for the 5-year average. Soybean harvest was 77 percent complete, compared to 73 percent last year. Winter wheat planted was at 70 percent, compared to 64 percent
last year. Winter wheat emerged was at 38 percent, compared to 31 percent for the 5-year average. Pasture and range condition was rated 11 percent very poor, 22 percent poor, 44 percent fair, 21 percent good, and 2 percent excellent.
