July 5th USDA Illinois Crop Progress and Condition Report

Field work continued over the past week with rains in some parts of the state. There were 5.8 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending July 2. Statewide, the average temperature was 70.6 degrees, 3.8 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 0.68 inches, 0.30 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 3 percent very short, 25 percent short, 69 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 2 percent very short, 18 percent short, 77 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus. Corn silking reached 12 percent, compared to 21 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition was rated at 2 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 27 percent fair, 52 percent good, and 13 percent excellent. Soybeans blooming reached 15 percent, compared with 16 percent last year. Soybean condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 22 percent fair, 59 percent good, and 11 percent excellent. Winter wheat harvest was 90 percent complete, compared to the 5-year average of 72 percent. Pasture and range condition was rated at 3 percent poor, 28 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 13 percent excellent.
