Cooler dryer weather prevailed throughout the state last week as the wheat harvest and double crop planting continued. There were 5.2 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending June 25. Statewide, the average temperature was 71.4 degrees, 2.3 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 0.76 inches, 0.21 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 2 percent very short, 17 percent short, 78 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 1 percent very short, 14 percent short, 83 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Corn silking reached 2 percent, compared to 6 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition was rated at 2 percent very poor, 7 percent poor, 29 percent fair, 51 percent good, and 11 percent excellent. Soybeans emerged was at 97 percent, up from 92 percent last year. Soybeans blooming was 7 percent, compared with 1 percent last year. Soybean condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 22 percent fair, 59 percent good, and 11 percent excellent. Winter wheat harvest was 78 percent complete, compared to the 5-year average of 47 percent. Pasture and range condition was rated at 1 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 28 percent fair, 55 percent good, and 11 percent excellent.
