October 11th USDA Illinois Crop Progress and Condition Report

thGood weather has had operators making good progress on harvesting corn and soybeans as well as working on fall tillage. Statewide, the average temperature was 63.8 degrees, 6.6 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.54 inches, 0.25 inches below normal. There were 5.6 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending October 9. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 1 percent very short, 4 percent short, 85 percent adequate, and 10 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 1 percent very short, 5 percent short, 87 percent adequate, and 7 percent surplus. Corn harvest was 62 percent complete, compared to 65 percent last year. Corn condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 13 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 27 percent excellent. Soybeans coloring increased to 98 percent, compared to 97 percent last year. Soybeans dropping leaves increased to 90 percent, compared to 90 percent for the 5-year average. Soybean harvest was 39 percent complete, compared to 65 percent last year. Soybean condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 14 percent fair, 58 percent good, and 24 percent excellent. Winter wheat planted reached 20 percent, compared to 30 percent for the 5-year average. Winter wheat emerged was at 3 percent, compared to 11 percent last year. Pasture and range condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 21 percent fair, 57 percent good, and 18 percent excellent.
