August 8th USDA Illinois Crop Progress and Condition Report

thCrops continue to benefit from favorable weather. Statewide, the average temperature was 76.4 degrees, 2.7 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.86 inches, 0.04 inches below normal. There were 5.3 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending August 7. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 1 percent very short, 6 percent short, 85 percent adequate, and 8 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 1 percent very short, 5 percent short, 88 percent adequate, and 6 percent surplus. Corn dough was at 60 percent, compared to 61 percent for the 5-year average. Corn dented reached 6 percent, compared to 14 percent last year. Corn condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 2 percent poor, 14 percent fair, 57 percent good, and 26 percent excellent. Soybeans blooming was at 91 percent, compared to 87 percent last year. Soybeans setting pods was at 68 percent. Soybean condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 16 percent fair, 58 percent good, and 21 percent excellent. Oats harvested jumped to 92 percent, compared to 89 percent for the 5- year average. Pasture and range condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 17 percent fair, 63 percent good, and 16 percent excellent.
