Cooler weather prevailed across the state last week. There 5.9 were days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending August 27. Statewide, the average temperature was 68.9 degrees, 4.7 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 0.79 inches, 0.07 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 11 percent very short, 37 percent short, 51 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 9 percent very short, 37 percent short, 53 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Corn in the dough stage was at 94 percent, compared to 94 percent last year. Corn dented was at 54 percent, compared to 63 percent for the 5-year average. Corn mature was at 2 percent, compared to 14 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition was rated 4 percent very poor, 10 percent poor, 34 percent fair, 42 percent good, and 10 percent excellent. Soybeans setting pods was at 96 percent, compared to 93 percent last year. Soybean coloring was at 8 percent, compared to 9 percent for the 5-year average. Soybean condition was rated 4 percent very poor, 10 percent poor, 29 percent fair, 50 percent good, and 7 percent excellent. Pasture and range condition was rated 8 percent very poor, 16 percent poor, 41 percent fair, 34 percent good, and 1 percent excellent.
