August 21st USDA Illinois Crop Progress and Condition Report

Drier weather prevailed across most of the state last week. There were 6.3 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending August 20. Statewide, the average temperature was 74.2 degrees, 0.2 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.45 inches, 0.41 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 9 percent very short, 41 percent short, 49 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 8 percent very short, 38 percent short, 53 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Corn dough was at 91 percent, compared to 88 percent last year. Corn dented was at 41 percent, compared to 46 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition was rated 4 percent very poor, 10 percent poor, 32 percent fair, 42 percent good, and 12 percent excellent. Soybeans setting pods was at 92 percent, compared to 88 percent last year. Soybean coloring was at 4 percent. Soybean condition was rated 3 percent very poor, 9 percent poor, 28 percent fair, 52 percent good, and 8 percent excellent. Pasture and range condition was rated 5 percent very poor, 13 percent poor, 43 percent fair, 35 percent good, and 4 percent excellent.
