October 31st USDA Illinois Crop Progress and Condition Report

thHarvesting of most crops is nearing completion, with many producers switching to fall tillage. Statewide, the average temperature was 55.2 degrees, 3.6 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.52 inches, 0.01 inches above normal. There were 5.2 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending October 30. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 1 percent very short, 6 percent short, 80 percent adequate, and 13 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 1 percent very short, 6 percent short, 87 percent adequate, and 6 percent surplus. Corn harvest was 91 percent complete, compared to 95 percent last year. Soybean harvest was 89 percent complete, compared to 88 percent for the 5-year average. Winter wheat planted reached 85 percent, compared to 88 percent last year. Winter wheat emerged jumped to 63 percent, 25 percentage points above last week. Winter wheat condition was rated 3 percent very poor, 1 percent poor, 27 percent fair, 55 percent good, and 14 percent excellent. Pasture and range condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 27 percent fair, 55 percent good, and 13 percent excellent.
