July 31st USDA Illinois Crop Progress and Condition Report

Scattered showers fell throughout the state last week. There were 5.1 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending July 30. Statewide, the average temperature was 73.6 degrees, 1.2 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 1.08 inches, 0.22 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 8 percent very short, 21 percent short, 67 percent adequate, and 4 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 5 percent very short, 22 percent short, 69 percent adequate, and 4 percent surplus. Corn silking jumped to 93 percent, compared to 94 percent for the 5-year average. Corn dough was at 36 percent, compared to 35 percent last year. Corn Condition was rated at 3 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 26 percent fair, 49 percent good, and 14 percent excellent. Soybeans blooming reached 88 percent, compared with 84 percent last year. Soybeans setting pods was at 50 percent, compared to 48 percent last year. Soybean condition was rated 3 percent very poor, 9 percent poor, 22 percent fair, 52 percent good, and 14 percent excellent. Pasture and range condition was rated at 5 percent very poor, 10 percent poor, 31 percent fair, 43 percent good, and 11 percent excellent.
