September 19th USDA Illinois Crop Progress and Condition Report

thStatewide, the average temperature was 70.9 degrees, 4.3 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.97 inches, 0.12 inches above normal. There were 5.0 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending September 18. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 1 percent very short, 2 percent short, 79 percent adequate, and 18 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 1 percent very short, 2 percent short, 83 percent adequate, and 14 percent surplus. Corn dented was 95 percent, compared to 99 percent last year. Corn mature increased to 63 percent, compared to 62 percent for the 5-year average. Corn harvest was 9 percent complete, compared to 14 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 2 percent poor, 12 percent fair, 60 percent good, and 25 percent excellent. Soybeans coloring jumped to 70 percent, compared to 75 percent last year. Soybeans dropping leaves was at 31 percent, compared to 48 percent last year. Soybean condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 15 percent fair, 59 percent good, and 21 percent excellent. Pasture and range condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 2 percent poor, 14 percent fair, 58 percent good, and 25 percent excellent.
