Statewide, the average temperature was 74.5 degrees, 0.9 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 1.31 inches, 0.54 inches above normal. There were 3.8 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending August 28. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 1 percent very short, 2 percent short, 75 percent adequate, and 22 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 1 percent very short, 3 percent short, 80 percent adequate, and 16 percent surplus. Corn dough was at 95 percent, compared to 95 percent for the 5-year average. Corn dented increased to 68 percent, compared to 68 percent last year. Corn mature was at 7 percent, compared to 16 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 2 percent poor, 12 percent fair, 58 percent good, and 27 percent excellent. Soybeans setting pods was at 94 percent, compared to 92 percent last year. Soybeans coloring was at 7 percent. Soybean condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 16 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 22 percent excellent. Pasture and range condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 2 percent poor, 16 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 25 percent excellent.
