The majority of the state saw above average rainfall last week. Some reports of sudden death syndrome in soybeans were received. Statewide, the average temperature was 74.6 degrees, 0.7 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 2.55 inches, 1.77 inches above normal. There were 3.5 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending August 21. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 1 percent very short, 3 percent short, 74 percent adequate, and 22 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 1 percent very short, 5 percent short, 79 percent adequate, and 15 percent surplus. Corn dough was at 89 percent, compared to 88 percent for the 5-year average. Corn dented increased to 47 percent, compared to 50 percent last year. Corn mature was at 1 percent, compared to 7 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 2 percent poor, 13 percent fair, 57 percent good, and 27 percent excellent. Soybeans setting pods was at 89 percent, compared to 86 percent last year. Soybeans coloring was at 2 percent. Soybean condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 17 percent fair, 58 percent good, and 21 percent excellent.
